about

Northland Highway Blues is on tape #97, recorded in the basement on Wednesday, March 17th, 1999. The band is the Starks, which was me, Vava Kolinski on guitar, Brennan Gault on bass, and Steven Daniluk on drums. The song was written on the same day. Three tracks used, to be exact. It's long and slow and the amps are all the way up. We had great neighbours.

lyrics

I'm standing on the northland highway
There's a red moon down the road
I'm standing on the northland highway
There's a red moon down the road
I can hear the midnight coming
The sun went down ten days ago

I dreamed about the last time I saw you
There were tears in the sky
I dreamed about the last time I saw you
There were tears in the sky
I just don't remember
Whether it was September or July

I'm watching the northern lights a-flashing
Green ribbons overhead
I'm watching the northern lights a-flashing
Green ribbons overhead
I can see them changing colours
Just like the last words you said

I'm standing on the northland highway
A thousand miles past your door
I'm standing on the northland highway
A thousand miles past your door
And I'm about to go somewhere
That I've never been before
