Back in Nova Scotia I was drumming in a band Life was living easy, day to day and hand to hand One day when we were jamming, she pulled up in a car It was the first time I saw the girl with the guitar My older brother was the leader and the singer of the tunes He fixed his eyes upon her as she walked into the room She looked at him and smiled as he played her up to par And I couldn't take my eyes off the girl with the guitar At the end of the rehearsal we went and got some beer My brother sat beside her and he whispered in her ear "Come with us tonight, we got a gig at the bar And you'll be playing in the band as the girl with the guitar" I was doing all I could to play it cool and keep the beat But when she started moving, my heart was missing beats She came in on the chorus on the 32nd bar I knew I was in love with the girl with the guitar The fire hall was blazing, we were playing rock'n'roll She was digging in the rhythm from the bottom of her soul The crowd was going wild and that night she was the star Everybody fell in love with the girl with the guitar I was packing up my drums when the band was getting drunk She came to me and said, "Come put your gear in my trunk Roll the windows down so we can smoke in the car" And I was driving away with the girl with the guitar At the end of the summer the band was breaking down My brother and I weren't talking and she was leaving town She gave me a kiss and then she lit a cigar And that's the last time I saw the girl with the guitar Everybody's changed and nobody stayed the same It's someone else's money and it's someone else's game When the band is paid and leaving and there's no one in the bar I always will remember the girl with the guitar ©2015 Paul Kolinski all rights reserved

Lost At Sea 10:18
Buried Gardens on Canyon Hill Is where I last saw snow There was a hanging bridge in the air And dark clouds hanging low It was early in the afternoon You were walking up ahead of me When the trees began to turn and sway I remembered I was lost at sea I remembered I was lost at sea Sable Island on the edge of the shelf Was the last time I saw land Suddenly faces appeared in the wind Across the winter desert sand It was late in the the afternoon When the ocean began to grow A white squall appeared from the south And I was fighting the undertow I was fighting the undertow Carolina! Carolina! It's good to see you! It's good to see you! I'm afraid of the ocean at night And all of the leagues below I'm drifting in a fading canoe Dissolving in the current flow Dissolving in the current flow My head is spinning, my memory's gone I don't know how how this began I see the water beginning to glow It looks like sugary sand It looks like sugary sand I see a place where I'm born again And everything is moving so slow I think I want to step overboard And lie on the sugary snow And lie on the sugary snow ©2015 Paul Kolinski All rights reserved

A Promise 09:21
I want to make you a promise To do right by you Never to be dishonest But to be faithful and true Every fear, thought and feeling I will gladly confess Just so you never get the feeling That you ever have to guess I could never stand above you Because I am only a man And as a man I'm gonna love you And do the best that I can I'll never try to deceive you I've got nothing to hide And I will always believe you I will swallow my pride I want to make you a promise I want to make you a vow If life takes everything from us We'll stay together somehow If the Titanic is sinking And you must leave me to the sea I will look into your eyes without blinking Until God sets me free I want to make you a promise I want to make you a vow When hard times fall upon us I'll love you just the way I do right now ©2015 Paul Kolinski All rights reserved

Lying in the basement Looking at the stars overhead Lying in the basement Looking at the stars overhead Thinking about every last word you said I saw you in the doorway Just before the lights went out I saw you in the doorway Just before the lights went out An almost empty moment An eternity of doubt (I wanna make you a promise I wanna make you a promise i wanna make you a promise To do right by you To do right by you) I'm sitting in a bathtub You're somewhere deep beneath the earth I'm sitting in a bathtub You're somewhere deep beneath the earth I'm sitting in a bathtub Before my own self worth ©2015 Paul Kolinski All rights reserved

about

This album represents the latest recording session by Silent Five on Sunday, November 11th, 2012 at the Gas Station on the Toronto islands by Dale Morningstar. Each song in this set was recorded in one take with no overdubs or edits (or headphones or separation, for that matter.)

The intention was to capture the band just as it was around the 10-year mark of its existence. Audio vérité. This album is Silent Five's third release and is made up of five of the seven songs recorded that day, in chronological order.
